About Purple Yam
For over 15 years, Purple Yam was a beloved Brooklyn institution known for its soulful, home-style Filipino dishes. Founded by Amy Besa and Chef Romy Dorotan, the restaurant brought the warmth of Filipino cooking to New York, blending creativity with cultural authenticity.
After closing its Brooklyn doors in August 2024, Purple Yam’s legacy continues through its Manila outpost, where Chef Romy and Amy honor Filipino traditions and sustainable cuisine.
This collaboration with Binondo marks Purple Yam’s final NYC pop-up of the year, paying tribute to its lasting influence on Filipino cuisine in both New York and Manila.
